Pre/Post Surgical Therapy

Pre-surgery:

Skilled therapy prior to orthopedic surgery is oftentimes indicated. This time is valuable and it can be utilized to prepare the body for surgery and facilitate a better outcome after the surgical intervention. When muscles, bones and joints are in optimum condition before the procedure, the impact of the inevitable muscle loss and joint stiffness is minimized post operatively. Essentially, the stronger a person is going into surgery, the better the chances of an easier and faster recovery after the surgery.

Post-surgery:

Skilled therapy is typically indicated following an orthopedic surgery to facilitate a speedy recovery. Therapy can start anywhere from a few hours to a few days after surgery and in some cases there may be a period of immobilization following surgery.

A patient’s ability to regain motion and strength and ultimately return to their daily activities depend on skilled therapy. The body will not regain normal motion without specific retraining. Physical and occupational therapists are specifically trained to restore range of motion and strength without compensation and to prevent re-injury during the recovery process.
